This guide has been constructed by the University of Sussex for its Eldis Gateway to development information. It offers an excellent structured overview on forests. Major sources (which include descriptions of organisations, databases and discussion lists) are arranged into useful groups, To save time, a set of appropriate search terms has been prepared to find full-text documents available online (including sections of WWW sites) and bibliographical references to printed publications (books, journal articles, working papers, etc) held in the British Library for Development Studies.

The aim of the G.A.O.F - Global Association of Online Foresters - is to increase the understanding of forestry by improving communication world-wide. The GAOF was formed by a group of people with an interest in forestry in 1997. The GAOF provides a forum for the exchange of information on current topics relating to forestry. Members communicate by e-mail and all members receive copies of correspondence either by return or as a digest. Members have a wide range of interests and membership is free.
