FORESTERS'
TIPS, TECHNIQUES,
AND
TRICKS OF THE TRADE | | |
READY, STEADY, GONE
Rather radical, this one - a project manager has run an entire project on the basis of three files only.
One file "Immediate"
was for instant action. Once this had been taken, the relevant papers were transferred to a second
file "Defused". After
one month they were passed to a third file "Very Defused". After a further month, the
papers were automatically
destroyed, regardless of origin or importance. Such rapid turnover ensured that there was no need to
specialise files. All
three files were stored in the manager's Landrover so that (a) file action was part of the process of
travelling, and (b) no
files were kept in the office removing any temptation to go there. Rarely was he caught out!
