bullet2 Oilpalm

While in Nigeria as a VSO, I copied illustrations in a textbook on Nigerian Trees, and then coloured them. Copying is a good way to learn!

The AFRICAN Oilpalm
Elaeis guineensis
A plant of many talents!
The fruits are an important source
of oils for
cooking, confectionary,
 bakery, ice-cream,
mayonnaise and soups.
The remains of the fruit
are used as livestock food.
The sap is used
to make palm wine.
The central shoot is edible.
The leaves are used for thatching
and the stalks for fencing
 and protecting mud walls.
Refuse after picking the fruit bunches
is used for mulching and manuring.
