Using MindManager to produce html pages
While using MindManager to design HTML documents, I have identified five stages in using the map,
but in practice they merge
into one another.
The first stage consists in using the mind map to brainstorm the various aspects of the topic.
Branches are constructed not only
for the major headings of the topic, but also for sources of information, such as email correspondence,
useful references, contact
details, document / web site links, and also for planning purposes, such as an activity list.
The second stage starts off by ordering the topic headings in a suitable hierarchy, and then beginning
to fill in relevant information.
As more and more information is obtained, the logic of the heading hierarchy can be reviewed,
the order changed if needed, and
the headings merged or divided as required. The information and planning ("working")
branches are expanded as required.
The third stage begins the process of arranging the branch headings in a suitable order and hierarchy
for HTML production.
The working branches are copied to a separate map, so that the existing map only contains the headings
that will go into the final
document. The separate map with the "working" branches is kept for reference.
The fourth consists in refining the text, the headings, and links, and also carrying out artistic work
on the mind map so that it will
form a suitable graphical index for the whole document. This process can begin in the third stage, as
it helps in the process of
refining the document layout. More than likely many of the branches will have to be collapsed to make
a manageable index map.
The fifth and final stage consists in converting the map and text into HTML, experimenting with the
design and finalising it, ready
for publishing on the web.
